Trainings on Web Accessibility

ITS will be hosting two training sessions on web accessibility to raise the awareness of University members on this important subject. These training sessions will be conducted during the Equal Opportunity Festival 2016 to be arranged by the Equal Opportunity Unit from October 27 to November 11, 2016.

The first training session aims at giving general users an overview of the concept of web accessibility and the essential elements in designing barrier-free, accessible websites for all people, including those who are visually impaired or have certain movement limitations.  Another training session covers more in-depth and technical topics targeting departmental webmasters or web administrators through which they can get the knowhow and techniques for enhancing their departmental websites to conform to the common web accessibility requirements. 

1. Training on Web Accessibility for General Users

  • The following topics will be covered:
  • What is Web Accessibility?
  • Understanding the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Testing Techniques for Web Accessibility (Website & Mobile Application)
  • Introduction to Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme (Co-organized by OGCIO & EOC)

No web design/editing skill is required to attend this training session.

2. Training on web accessibility for webmasters or web administrators

This training session covers the requirements stipulated under the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme co-organized by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC).  The aim of this scheme is to encourage the adoption of accessibility design to facilitate access to online information and services by all segments of the community, including persons with disabilities.   Departmental webmaster and web administrators who possess basic web editing knowledge and are responsible for website design and/or maintenance are welcome to join.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Introduction to Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme (Co-organized by OGCIO & EOC)
  • Judging Criteria and Skills on How to Fulfill These Accessibility Requirements (Website Stream) - Silver and Gold Award
  • Testing Techniques for Web Accessibility (Website & Mobile Application)
