Microsoft Skype for Business and Office 365 ProPlus

Does your department have the need to use video-conferencing for conducting meetings, interviews or oral examinations? How about using @hku.hk for communication with students or counterparts using Skype?

If you are a University staff, Microsoft Skype for Business is a readily available option that you can consider if your department has subscribed to Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES).

With Skype for Business, you can

  • Communicate with people using Skype/Skype for Business, using text, voice or video
  • Send instant messages
  • Send files
  • Set up audio and video-conferencing meetings for up to 25 parties
  • Set up web conference for up to 250 parties, including people outside HKU
  • Share your desktop or applications
  • Know the presence status of others using Skype/Skype for Business

To kick start in using Skype for Business, please refer the user guide at http://www.its.hku.hk/documentation/guide/communication/im/skype-for-business2015.

Apart from Skype for Business, University staff in departments on EES subscription can also download and install Microsoft Office ProPlus (Office 365 ProPlus) on up to 5 personal machines (PC or Mac) and Office apps on 5 mobile devices including Android, iPad, and Windows tablets without additional cost.  They can also use Microsoft's online cloud storage OneDrive for Business (1 TB in size).  Check out our earlier announcement for more details.
