ITS has organized a talk "Design and Implementation for Convergence of HPC (High Performance Computing) and Bigdata on Tianhe-2 Supercomputer" on April 18, 2018.
The talk was delivered by Professor Yutong Lu, the Deputy Chief Designer of Tianhe-2 and Professor in Sun Yat-sen University. The talk has introduced the improvement of Chinese supercomputing in the past years, use and applications of supercomputing, efforts of convergence of HPC and Bigdata, and how to establish a capable application platform on Tianhe-2, the world's 2nd most powerful supercomputer installed at the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou(NSCC-GZ) under the umbrella of Sun Yat-sen University. In the seminar, Professor Lu has also mentioned some of their planning and involvement in The Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area (粵港澳大灣區) economic reform.
On top of Professor Lu’s session, Professor GH Chen of Chemistry, one of the HPC users at HKU, has shared his group's experience and achievements in the use of the Tianhe-2 supercomputer for their research works which facilitates their research outputs to reach another new height.
A number of small-group discussions between HPC researchers at HKU and the Tianhe-2 supporting staff were conducted after the seminar to discuss the possibilities in fostering collaboration between HKU, Tianhe-2 and Sun Yat-sen University. Researchers interested in knowing more about the collaboration opportunities can contact the HPC Team via GROUP-ITS-HPC@hku.hk.
