LAN

Overview

The coverage of Local Area Network (LAN) is extensive with over 51,000 network access points installed connecting the computer servers, workstations and PCs to the Campus Network.  The LAN includes the office network in departments, classroom network in classrooms and lecture theatres and hall network in student residential halls. Currently, the LAN connections for individual users can support Gigabit Ethernet standard (1Gbps).  At building level, dual 10G Ethernet resilient connections are connected to the core backbone network which offers high network performance with resilient network design. This high-performance campus network can facilitate academic, research and administrative activities of the University.

Departments can request for addition or relocation of network points at a charge.  Please click the “Notes on Request for Addition/Relocation of Computer Network Points (CF-71a)” below for details.
