The HKU WiFi service is using digital certificate to support secure WiFi communication. We have been informed by the provider of the current WiFi digital certificate (Equifax) that the certificate will expire soon, and a new digital certificate from "GeoTrust Global CA" will replace the current certificate for the WiFi networks: Universities WiFi, eduroam, Universities via PCCW and Universities via Y5ZONE.
As a result of the change in the digital certificate as mentioned above, HKU WiFi users are required to update the selection of digital certificate in their mobile devices ONCE for continuing the use of HKU WiFi service as described below.
1. For Windows 7/Vista/XP
Please run the computer program at http://www.its.hku.hk/home/networks/wifi/WiFi_Setup.exe NOW. The WiFi configuration at the notebook PCs will then be automatically updated to use the new digital certificate. After that, select an HKU WiFi service to connect to e.g. Universities WiFi and you will be prompted to enter yourHKUPortalUID@hku.hk and PIN. The update is done after successful login.
2. For Mac/iPhone/iPad
Users will be prompted to accept a new certificate when they connect to the HKU WiFi after 8am on 30 July 2012. The update is done after you click “Accept” to connect.
3. For Blackberry
Users are requested to follow the instructions at Question 7 (Q7) of http://www.its.hku.hk/faq/faqwlan.htm to choose and use the new digital certificate after 8am on 30 July 2012.
4. For Android and Windows Mobile:
These users will NOT be affected by the above mentioned change.
