In line with the University’s SMARTER@HKU initiative, Information Technology Services (ITS) has entered into a new campus license arrangement on MATLAB and Simulink software for providing these commonly used software tools more easily and cost-efficiently to all departments, their staff members and students. This campus license is called the MATLAB Total Academic Headcount (TAH) license. It covers the access to the latest MATLAB, Simulink and a related suite of 88 toolboxes for supporting the University’s teaching, learning and research activities.
The MATLAB and Simulink software can be installed on the on-campus computing facilities, laboratories, classrooms and research centres, as well as staff-owned and student-owned personal computers. Furthermore, departments will also be able to save much of the effort required for procurement and usage monitoring/control of the separately acquired MATLAB and Simulink licenses.
To get started in using the TAH license, staff and students can access HKU’s MATLAB Portal to download, install and activate the MATLAB licenses. They will be prompted to authenticate using their HKU Portal UID and PIN. The procedures in details can be found at https://www.its.hku.hk/services/personal/software/matlab-simulink.
In case of problems in installing MATLAB, please go to HKU’s MATLAB Portal and click “Contact MathWorks Support” to get help.
Staff and students not familiar with MATLAB can complete the 2-hour MATLAB Onramp Tutorial which can be found on HKU’s MATLAB Portal by clicking “Start learning now” in the Learn to Use MATLAB and Simulink section.
For departments who would like to use concurrent licenses in departmental facilities such as PC laboratories, please send the required details listed in https://www.its.hku.hk/services/personal/software/matlab-simulink#facilities to email@example.com for our processing.
Please note that the TAH license is for use by University staff and students. The right to use will expire after they leave or graduate from the University.
In case you have any questions about the TAH arrangement, please contact our Service Desk at 3917 0123 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
