New Microsoft Azure Information Protection (AIP) Unified Labeling Client

The current version of Microsoft Azure Information Protection AIP client (called AIP classic client) will retire on 31 Mar 2021.  Staff and RPG students using AIP to set access permissions to files and email messages (including attachments) have to upgrade to a new client (called AIP unified labeling client) to continue using the AIP software after the retirement date.

ITS will start supporting the new AIP client from 4 Jan 2021 onwards.  Active AIP users will be notified by email requesting them to start upgrading the new client via the procedures described here.

The use of the new AIP client is the same as the current version except

1. The 4 labels (i.e. Public, Internal, Confidential and Restricted) shown below the ribbon bar in Microsoft Office applications are removed.
2. Users are requested to protect their documents via File Explorer instead of the "Protect" button in Microsoft Office applications.
3. The "Do Not Forward" button in Microsoft Outlook is removed. Users can protect emails via Options > Permission > Do Not Forward.

The full user guide on AIP can be found here.
