Getting Started

1. HKU Portal account  

HKU Portal UID (UID) is a unique user identification (user name) for using the central IT services.  These include Student Information System (SIS) services, online courses, network services, email, library resources and other online services provided by various departments.  Click here for details.

Your pre-assigned UID and PIN are printed on the “Computer Account Details” sheet which is distributed by the Registry/your Faculty.

2. Network service

For WiFi and fixed network connection, a one-time configuration/network card registration is required.  Click here for details.

Before configuration, students can also use “Wi-Fi.HK via HKU” (for immediate access only that requires no registration and it runs in an unsecured mode within limited bandwidth).  

3. Moodle courses

Moodle courses are automatically created for every course students enrolled. These courses are accessible via the My eLearning tab of HKU Portal.  Please click here for details.

4. Email service

Each student is provided with a University email account called HKU Connect. This is an outsourced email service powered by Google and brings the benefits of indexed email search, industry standard spam control, calendaring, and ActiveSync for mobile devices.  Students can access email via MyEmail tab of HKU Portal or other email clients (  

Students can also set to receive bulk email messages from selected University departments only.  Please click here to see the procedures.

5. PC and printing facilities

Students can use PCs and printing facilities (called “uPrint”) available at the Learning Commons, the Libraries and some faculty-based PC laboratories/facilities.
