GitHub Copilot Pro is available to all HKU staff and students at no additional charge through GitHub Education benefits. To apply, please visit the application page: https://github.com/settings/education/benefits.
Before applying, staff and students must first sign up for a GitHub account with two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. In the GitHub account settings, they must also provide a billing address under the payment information section. No payment method is required.
When applying for GitHub Education benefits, applicants should select whether they belong to the student or teacher category.
We strongly advise staff and students to complete the application on-campus using their personal laptops, with location services enabled. This helps GitHub verify that the applicant is physically located at the university, which supports eligibility confirmation. Applicants should use their laptop camera to take a photo of their student or staff card, as digital file uploads of ID cards may be unsuccessful.
Applications typically take up to 5 days to be reviewed and approved by GitHub. After that, GitHub Copilot Pro can be activated at https://github.com/settings/copilot.
