We are pleased to introduce Facial Identity Access for HKU students and staff, starting from 20 January 2026. This innovation provides an additional method to enter University facilities, complementing existing access methods such as staff/student ID cards and QR codes generated via the HKU App.
As a pilot launch, Facial Identity Access is available at the entrances of Main Library (G/F and 2/F), and Chi Wah Learning Commons (G/F and 1/F). More facilities will be added gradually in the future.
To enable this feature, you must pre‑register your facial image:
- Visit the Self-registration Terminals located at Main Library (2/F) and Chi Wah Learning Commons (1/F).
- Present your valid student/staff ID card.
- Follow steps to capture your facial image at the terminal.
- Confirm registration and the registration will become effective in 10 minutes

Registration is voluntary; however, it is required to enable Facial Identity for access. The biometric data will be stored securely as encrypted templates on protected servers and will only be accessible to authorized personnel, in accordance with HKU’s Personal Information Collection Statement.
