Information Technology Services (ITS) is pleased to announce the launch of HKU GenAI App (https://genai.hku.hk), a unified, feature-rich platform built on a popular open-source technology to streamline your generative AI experience at HKU, effective from 1 July 2026. Users can access the platform seamlessly using their HKU Portal login.
1. Key Features of the New HKU GenAI App
The new web app consolidates multi-model text and image generation into a single, unified interface, offering advanced workspace enhancements to better support your academic and research needs:
- Unified Model Access: Generate text responses and creative images using a wide selection of leading models, including GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM, Nano Banana, and GPT Image.
- Flexible Content Save Locations (Database & Browser Storage): Users can choose where to store their data. You can opt to Save in the HKU GenAI Database to keep your chats, notes, folders, images, and uploads securely synced to your HKU GenAI account, or choose to Save in This Browser to keep data strictly local to your current browser.
- Temporary Chat: For absolute privacy, users can enable Temporary Chat (available via the top right icon or under Settings > Interface > Temporary Chat by Default) to ensure that no chat logs, prompts, or user data are retained.
- Advanced Data Organization: Utilize newly added workspace features, including Notes and Topics, to efficiently categorize, save, and manage your prompts and chat histories.
2. Transition Arrangement for Existing Web Apps
With the introduction of the unified HKU GenAI App, the existing HKU ChatGPT web app (https://chatgpt.hku.hk) and HKU DALL·E web app (https://dalle.hku.hk) will be phased out according to the following schedule:
- Service Availability: The existing https://chatgpt.hku.hk/ and https://dalle.hku.hk/ web apps will remain available until 31 July 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.
- Important Data Backup Reminder: All user history and data on these existing apps will only be retained until the decommissioning date. Please ensure that you manually save or export any necessary data and conversations before 31 July 2026.
