New WiFi SSID "HKU-IoT" for Smart IoT Devices

ITS has introduced a new WiFi SSID HKU-IoT designed specifically for connecting WiFi devices that do not support 802.1x login and only support Pre-shared Key (PSK) authentication. The service is currently available to staff and departments.

ITS has introduced a new WiFi SSID, “HKU-IoT,” designed specifically for connecting WiFi devices that do not support 802.1x login and only support Pre-shared Key (PSK) authentication. The service is currently available to staff and departments.

Benefits of HKU-IoT:

  • Provides WiFi connectivity for devices that do not support 802.1x authentication.
  • Enables WiFi devices to connect to the HKU campus network, rather than directly to the internet (Wi-Fi.HK via HKU).
  • Allows users to set individual WiFi password (PSK) for each device to enhance security.

Examples of devices that can benefit from the HKU-IoT network include:

  • Smart Home Devices: smart TVs, smart speakers, smart doorbells, smart locks, etc.
  • Certain printers and copiers
  • IoT devices

Please note devices connected to this SSID cannot access servers within the ITS host segment as a security measure.
