As announced by Professor Ian Holliday, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) on 1 March 2021, the University is extending access to the graduating Class of 2021 to the following facilities until next summer, August 31, 2022: University Libraries, Chi Wah Learning Commons and the Sports Centre.

Below is a recap of the IT services that are available to the graduating class of 2021:

a. Free Email Accounts for HKU Graduates

Students’ HKU Portal account will expire upon graduation but they can continue using the email service provided by the University.  All graduating students will be notified by email about the expiry of their HKU Portal accounts and things that they need to know regarding their HKU Connect graduate email accounts.

There will be no change to students’ email accounts after graduation and graduates can continue using UID@connect.hku.hk and alias@connect.hku.hk for communication.

For those students who would have problem in accessing the Google service in their home country, they are recommended to setup email forwarding before leaving Hong Kong so that they can continue receiving email sent to their HKU Connect email address.

b. Extension of Access

1. HKU WiFi and HKUVPN

Access to HKU WiFi (i.e. “HKU” and “eduroam) and HKUVPN (HKU Virtual Private Network) will be extended for use by graduating class of 2021 until 31 August 2022.  Afterwards, they can use “Wi-Fi.HK via HKU” whenever they visit the University.

2. Communal PCs and uPrint Service

Similarly, graduating class of 2021 can access the communal PCs in the Chi Wah Learning Commons and uPrint Services until 31 August 2022 (until 9pm of 31 August 2022 for uPrint). Please settle all outstanding liability of printing units incurred before the extended date and unused uPrint quota, if any, will be removed from the account without refund.

End of the Right to Use Centrally Provided Software

Graduating students please note that their right to use the centrally provided software (including Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, Sophos anti-virus, MATLAB, SPSS, etc.) offered by the University will expire on the same date as their HKU Portal account.  Graduates who wish to continue using these software items can purchase them directly from the suppliers.

We thank our graduates for using the services of ITS and wish them every success after graduation.  Should there be any questions on the above, please feel free to contact our Service Desk at 3917 0123 or ithelp@hku.hk.
