Optional Disk for Research (ODR) & Optional Disk for Study (ODS)

To enhance data management and organization for HKU, an Optional Disk for Research (ODR) is arranged and targeted for RPG students, and an Optional Disk for Study (ODS) is arranged and targeted for UG/TPG students. This arrangement aims to optimize storage resource allocation across the university.

ODR and ODS services are still in development and currently accessible only to selected students by invitation. These services are expected to be open for student applications by summer 2026.

“Document” section at ODR/ODS storage

You can access the “Document” section (referred to as the Document Library) is accessible via the left panel of the ODR/ODS storage interface. It provides a centralized repository for efficient storage and management of various file types, including Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, images, and more. You may also create folders and subfolders to organize files based on project, department, or category.

Check storage usage at ODR/ODS storage

You can select “Storage Usage” (also referred to as Storage Metrics) from the left panel of the ODR/ODS storage interface. This feature enables you to efficiently monitor and manage storage utilization at  your ODR/ODS environments.

Restore deleted items from Recycle bin

You can select “Recycle bin” (also referred to as Storage Metrics) from the left panel of the ODR/ODS storage interface. Inside the “Recycle bin”, you can check the box next to the file or folder you want to recover. And then click the “Restore” button at the top of the page to start the restore process.

Remind that the retention period of deleted items in “Recycle bin” is only up to 93 days. After the retention period, all items at Recycle bin will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Connect ODR/ODS storage with OneDrive sync client at Windows desktop

Please access the ODR/ODS storage web interface from a Windows desktop client (preferably Windows 11) that already bundled with “OneDrive Sync Client”.  Then access the “Document” section at the left panel of the ODR/ODS storage interface from the Windows 11 client. Then press the “” icon and choose the “Sync” button.

Then a message will pop up and click “Open Microsoft OneDrive”.

If the connection to OneDrive Sync client is successful, then files placed in the “Document” folder will sync with your OneDrive.

To verify the synchronization status of OneDrive, please select the OneDrive icon located in the lower right corner of your screen.
