What is LabArchives ELN service?
LabArchives, a cloud-based electronic lab notebook (ELN) platform, offers a secure, efficient, and user-friendly solution designed to facilitate complex research data management, team collaboration, and regulatory compliance. The LabArchives ELN services integrated with HKU Portal Single-Sign-On (SSO) authentication.
Benefits of LabArchives ELN service
- Enhanced Organization & Accessibility: Replace paper notebooks with a searchable, cloud-based system accessible from anywhere, on any device. Easily organize laboratory research data, and notes in a structured digital format.
- Seamless Collaboration: Share notebooks with research group members or external partners in real-time, with controlled access permissions. Track changes and maintain version history for full transparency.
- Integration & Efficiency Tools: Compatible with common research software (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python) and supports direct data uploads. Reduce costs associated with paper, printing, and physical storage.
How to register for HKU LabArchives ELN service?
- The service is registered through the Principal Investigator (PI) of the research group to enable service for the designated research group members. If you are the Principal Investigator (PI) (or corresponding delegated full-time staff) of HKU research group, through CF94 form.
- Upon successful application, please go to the HKU LabArchives login page: https://au-mynotebook.labarchives.com/, select your institution from the Sign in through your institution list. You will be directed to your institution’s Single Sign-On page. For details, please refer HERE
How to use HKU LabArchives ELN service?
Below is a basic guideline on how to get started and use its core features.
Getting Started & Setup
- Access: Login at HKU LabArchives login page: https://au-mynotebook.labarchives.com/, select your institution from the Sign in through your institution list.
- Create Notebook: Click the “+” symbol to create a new notebook, which can be organized into folders and subfolders for experiments.
- Setup Structure: Use the Notebook Navigator (left panel) to add folders/pages. Right-click to rename or delete.
Adding Data and Entries
- Add Entry Toolbar: Use this at the top right of any page to add rich text, headings, attachments, data tables, or widgets.
- Data Types: You can directly upload files (Excel, images, PDFs), integrate with Microsoft Office, or add data from equipment.
- Mobile/Sketching: Use the mobile app to upload photos, or utilize touch-screen devices for handwriting-to-text input.
Organization and Collaboration
- Sharing: Click the “Share” button on a page or folder to provide specific users with view or edit rights.
- Version Control: Every change is recorded. You can view page revision history or restore previous versions via the gear icon on an entry.
- Searching: Use the search bar to find keywords across all notebooks.
