What is the Virtual PC (VPC) access arrangement for leaving staff?
With effect from 1 April 2020, leaving staff’s access to VPC will be stopped after the employment contract end date. They are advised to back up their files, if necessary, before their leaving date.
Can VPC users access their VPCs outside the campus network?
Yes. HKU Virtual PC (VPC) supports connection from outside the campus network. Staff VPC users can use this remote access function by following the user guide. For student VPC users, they can apply for using this function via CF85 by specifying this request in the Remarks field.
How can I change the audio device (USB) setting of my VPC Box?
In the login screen of VPC Left click on any background area Select “System Setup” –> “Peripherals” Select “Audio” to change your preferred audio settings Click on drop-down button for Playback Devices, and select your connected USB audio device. Click OK to save the new settings.

Where should I save the data on my VPC?
Please save your data files under Personal Home (drive H), or built-in Windows Libraries (Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Pictures, Music, Videos)
Do I need to update the Windows, anti-virus and software manually?
No. All critical updates from Windows, anti-virus and software will be centrally managed and patching will be processed at back-end. Each new session will always have up-to-date settings, software and patching in place.
What can I do if software crashed?
You can try to reset the software by following below steps: Click on Windows logo Type “Self-Support” Double click on “Self-Support” Select the software you want to reset and click “Reset”
What is Personal Home (H:)?
Personal Home (H:) is a network space that store your files of Desktop, Documents, etc. You should save all the files/folders in your Personal Home drive to avoid data loss. Please do not save your file in C drive.
Why my Communal VPC will logout automatically?
A Communal VPC session idling for more than 30 minutes will be automatically logged out.
