With Artificial Intelligence (AI) set to revolutionize education, HKU ITS is providing selected large-language models and image generation models, powered by Microsoft’s Azure services, for staff and students to prepare for the future and reap benefits from the immense potential AI has to offer. Limited to teaching, learning, work and research-related purposes only, these AI assistants can help users resolve queries and assist in tasks.
Staff
HKU ChatGPT Web App
- Unlimited requests per day with gpt-4.1-nano, gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4.1, gpt-5-nano, gpt-5-mini, gpt-5-chat, gpt-5, and o4-mini.
- Unlimited requests per day with DeepSeek-R1 and DeepSeek-V3.
HKU ChatGPT API
- Up to 300 per day with gpt-4.1-nano, gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4.1, gpt-5-nano, gpt-5-mini, gpt-5-chat, gpt-5, and o4-mini.
- Up to 300 per day with DeepSeek-R1 and DeepSeek-V3
HKU DALL∙E Web App
- Up to 10 requests with DALL-E 3 and gpt-image-1.
HKU DALL∙E API
- Up to 10 requests per day with DALL-E 3 and gpt-image-1.
Contact ITS Service Desk to increase the quota limit via a self-pay subscription.
HKU ChatGPT & HKU DALL∙E Web Apps
- Access to gpt-4.1-nano, gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4.1, gpt-5-nano, gpt-5-mini, gpt-5-chat, gpt-5, o4-mini, DeepSeek-R1, and DeepSeek-V3 for the HKU ChatGPT web app.
- Access to DALL-E 3 and gpt-image-1 for the HKU DALL∙E web app.
- Up to 500,000 tokens a month for both web apps. Number of tokens used per request varies based on several factors.
API calls are not available at the moment for students.
Be aware of each course’s policy on using AI for assistance in any coursework. Failure to adhere to the course policy can lead to disciplinary action against the student.
Data Privacy and Content Filtering
With respect to data privacy, user inputs in the web apps, for both staff and students, are neither recorded by HKU nor Microsoft. There is also a default content filtering system in place to avoid hate, sexual, violent and self-harm outputs.
