About Creating a Project

A project consists of a survey, distribution record, and collection of responses and reports. You can create a new survey project from scratch, from a copy of an existing survey or from a template.

Creating a Blank Survey Project

Blank Survey projects are surveys you build from scratch.

  1. Navigate to the Projects page by clicking the XM logo or clicking Projects on the top-right.
  2. Click Create Project.

  3. Click Blank Survey Project.

  4. Enter a name for your survey.
  5. Click Create Project.

After clicking Create Project, you’ll be taken to the Survey tab where you can begin adding questions to your survey.

Creating from a Copy

  1. Navigate to the Projects page by clicking the XM logo or clicking Projects on the top-right. 
  2. Click Create Project.

  3. Click Create From Existing.

  4. Make sure From a Copy is selected.
  5. Choose the survey you would like to copy from the dropdown list under Source Project.
  6. Name the new survey under Project Name.
  7. Click Create Project to finish.

After clicking Create Project, you’ll be taken to the Survey tab where you can begin editing your survey.

Creating from a Template

Instead of starting with a blank project, you can also start with a Qualtrics template. These pre-made projects provide a starting place for Experience Management, with content developed by subject-matter experts.

  1. Navigate to the Projects page by clicking the XM logo or clicking Projects on the top-right.
  2. Click Create Project.

  3. Choose from the templates listed at the bottom.

  4. Fill out the appropriate information. Some templates only ask that you name them, while other will ask for more details, such as company names or administrator emails.
  5. When you’re ready, click Create Project.

For Templates that ask for additional information, you can edit this at any time. Simply navigate to the Project Fields section at the top of the survey editor.

Creating Projects from XM Solutions

Solutions help you build questions and blocks based on information you set, such as product names or the method you’d like to use to collect information. The question structures used in Solutions are based on industry-standard research designs and perfected by subject-matter experts.

Solutions are different from Templates, in that Templates create a survey for you, whereas Solutions take you step by step through the survey creation, distribution, and reporting process.

  1. Navigate to the Projects page by clicking the XM logo or clicking Projects on the top-right.
  2. Click Create Project.

  3. Select the product line.
  4. Scroll down and select one of the XM Solutions – Automated Projects that suits you most.

  5. Read the description. This will explain what the solution was built for (Methodology), the info you need to provide (What You’ll Need), and the content Qualtrics will build for you (Components).
  6. Name your project.
  7. Click Create Project.

  8. You will land on the Overview tab. This is where the Solution will guide you through the major steps of the project, including survey creation, distribution, and reporting. 
  9. There will be a description of the first step you are about to complete. Click Get Started to start building your project.

  10. Fill out the fields. These components will vary based on the Solution you selected, and come with detailed descriptions of their purpose. 
  11. When finished, click Finish.

  12. As you click the blue buttons on the Overview tab, you will be taken through the steps of the project. 
  13. Use the toolbar along the top if you ever need to go back a step.
  14. Steps will automatically advance as you complete the guided workflow. Some steps allow you to click Mark as Done to finish a step and move onto the next without completing the step’s recommended action.
  15. Use the tabs along the top if you’d like to edit components not included in the primary step. For example, you can go to the Survey tab to edit the survey theme and add demographic questions, whereas you can go to the Distributions tab to download an distribution history for emails you’ve sent.

Creating from the Survey Library

The From Survey Library option allows you to copy a survey from a library and use it as a template for your new project. You can copy from the Qualtrics Library (which contains many ready-to-use surveys).

To create from the Survey Library
  1. Navigate to the Projects page by clicking the XM logo or clicking Projects on the top-right.
  2. Click Create Project.

  3. Click Create From Existing.

  4. Make sure From a Library is selected.
  5. Choose Qualtrics Library to choose from surveys within the Qualtrics database.
  6. Choose the survey you want to copy.
  7. Name the new survey.
  8. Click Create Project.

  9. After clicking Create Project, you’ll be taken to the Survey tab where you can begin editing your survey.
