How to verify whether the WiFi login issue is related to user device issue and NOT caused by user account? (I’m unable to login Wi-Fi, what could be the root cause?)

  • Check if you can login HKU portal.
    • If you cannot login HKU portal, please contact ITS to check if the issue is related to your account.

  • Check if you can connect to any of the 3 SSIDs: HKU, eduroam, or WiFi.HK via HKU.
    • If all the Wi-Fi SSIDs are inaccessible, there may be issue related to your device, please try some general methods listed on the next question.
    • If you can connect to HKU or WiFi.HK via HKU but not eduroam, make sure you type the username in the format of ‘UID@hku.hk’ for staff or in the format of ‘UID@connect.hku.hk’ for student.
    • If you can only connect to WiFi.HK via HKU, please contact ITS to check if the issue is related to your account.

  • Check if you can connect to HKU Wi-Fi using other devices (laptop, phone, tablet, etc.) with the same HKU account.

  • Check if you can connect to HKU Wi-Fi at other campus locations.
    • If you can connect to Wi-Fi at other campus locations, please help report to ITS the location where you cannot connect to Wi-Fi.

  • If you changed your portal password recently, please be reminded to use new password. In case you forgot the new password, please reset the password again.

  • If a certificate window appears upon connecting to the Wi-Fi network, please verify that the certificate name is “802.1x.hku.hk.” If it matches, proceed by selecting “Trust” or “Accept” to continue connecting to the Wi-Fi.
