Installation and Setup Procedures for Office on Android Tablet

1. Introduction​

Office for Android (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OneNote) can be installed and setup on your Android tablet so that you can view and edit the Office documents you save to a cloud service such as OneDrive or OneDrive for Business.

2. Prerequisite

Office for Android tablet can be installed on tablets running Android KitKat 4.4 or later with a minimum screen size of 7 inches and an ARM-based or Intel(x86) processor.

3. Installation and Setup Procedures

Note: Please remove older versions of Office from your mobile devices before your start to install Office for Android tablet.
  1. Download and install Office for Android tablet apps from the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap any Office app to open it. Swipe through the introduction, and tap “Sign In”.
  3. To use the premium features in the app, on the “Sign In” page, type the personal Microsoft account or work or school account associated with your Office 365 subscription, and then tap “Next”.

    After you complete the sign in process on one of the Office apps, your account and the OneDrive for Business service is automatically added to the other Office apps installed on your Android tablet.
  5. Tap “Create and Edit Documents” to start working on your documents.

4. Add University account to office mobile with a personal Microsoft account​

If you installed any Office for Android tablet app, but set it up with a different account, for example a Microsoft account like outlook.com, you can also add your University account to access documents you saved in OneDrive for Business, SharePoint team sites, or document libraries.
  1. Open Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote on your Android tablet.
  2. In Word, Excel, or PowerPoint tap “Account”, and then tap “Add a Service”.If you are using OneNote, tap “Settings”

  4. Tap “OneDrive for Business”. Type your work or school account, and then tap “Sign In”. The service is now added to your account.TIP: After you complete the sign in process on one of the Office apps, your account and the OneDrive for Business service is automatically added to the other Office apps installed on your Android tablet.

5. Opening documents in the app

  1. Tap the service where you want to view your files. For example, to view Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents, tap “pen > OneDrive – <your business name>” and you’ll see the list of files you saved to OneDrive or OneDrive for Business. The files you see are specific to the app you opened them in. For example, if you opened the Word app, you’ll only see Word documents or if you opened the Excel app, you’ll see Excel spreadsheets.
  2. To view any OneNote notebooks you saved to OneDrive or OneDrive for Business, tap + “Open Existing”.
