Online PIN reset is applicable for use by staff and students. For those staff and students who have already registered their alternate email address, mobile phone or secret question with ITS, they can reset their PIN online by the following steps:
1. Alternate Email Address
- Click the link “Forgot your PIN/Passwords” under the login page of HKU Portal or https://extranet.hku.hk/itpwdpol/servlet/recoverPassword.
- Enter your HKU Portal UID and Staff/Student No. and the 5-character string shown in the picture and click “submit”.
- Click “Alternate email”.
- An email containing a verification link (valid for 10 minutes after it is sent) will be sent to your alternate email address.
- Click the verification link and follow the instructions to enter your new PIN.
- The new PIN will be effective in 10 minutes.
2. Mobile Phone (SMS)
- Click the link “Forgot your PIN/Passwords” under the login page of HKU Portal or https://extranet.hku.hk/itpwdpol/servlet/recoverPassword.
- Enter your HKU Portal UID and Staff/Student No. and the 5-character string shown in the picture and click “submit”.
- Click “Mobile phone (SMS)”.
- A 6-digit verification code will be sent to your registered mobile phone number. Please enter the code in the online form within 10 minutes.
- After the code is verified correct, enter your new PIN.
- The new PIN will be effective in 10 minutes.
3. Secret Question
- Click the link “Forgot your PIN/Passwords” under the login page of HKU Portal or https://extranet.hku.hk/itpwdpol/servlet/recoverPassword.
- Enter your HKU Portal UID and Staff/Student No. and the 5-character string shown in the picture and click “submit”.
- Click “Secret question”.
- Enter the answer to the secret question you registered with ITS.
- After the inputted answer is verified correct, enter your new PIN.
- The new PIN will be effective in 10 minutes.
For staff and students who wish to register/update your alternate email address and mobile phone number with ITS, please login HKU Portal > type “contact info” in the Search field > click the link “Register Contact Info with ITS”.
If you have not registered the above information with ITS, please submit CF111 – Application for Change of HKU Portal PIN (you can complete the form using Adobe Acrobat Reader or PDF-XChange PRO) and send a copy of your staff/student card to ithelp@hku.hk. Alternatively, you can submit CF-111 and show your staff/student card in person at 1/F, Library Building (Old Wing).
